Blackbird was a very unintelligent Tengu that could not keep himself from eating everything he saw.  After consuming multiple portions of flesh from undead encounters he contracted a disease that caused him to slowly turn into a ghoul.  This process took many months but ultimately caused him to turn on his party members.
