 Nightwell was originally founded as a farming town.  It would trade its excess food with the dwarves to the west and became known for having a stockpile of dwarven goods.  Its first mayor [[Bodvi Tery]] became interested in collecting rare and powerful magical artifacts.  It had become known that the mayor of the city was interested in these items so it started attracting traders to the town with goods that may interest him.  Some of these traders started settling down and making permanent shops and by the time this had happened Nightwell had become a small trading outlet.  The local police started getting very strong magical equipment and Nightwell became the source of [[The Republic]]'s tradition of equipping its military with the best gear it could find.
